I love to cook. I particularly love to cook nutritious, wholesome food that is preservative, additive and artificial everything free.

I’ve combined my love of cooking (and eating, let’s be honest) with my passion for health and fitness to create My Food Religion. It’s a blog centred on pure, unadulterated food. Food that’s good for your body and soul. Food that makes you feel good from the inside out.

I am not vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, fat-free, carb-free or any other food “denomination” in its entirety. I take what I like from different food approaches and recipes and adapt it to suit what makes me (and my husband and daughter) feel good.

I am a mum of two beautiful kids, a wife and we are an additive-free family. Our journey started two years ago when my son was born. My daughter, Eva at the time was just three years old, and her world was out of control. She was having tantrums that just didn’t end, she was hitting, biting, had constant red cheeks and would sit on the floor rocking back and forth scratching her face apart. She constantly complained of a tummy ache and was always sick.

All before she was two years old, she had suffered from ear infections, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, asthma, and had chronic, repeated tonsillitis. She had her tonsils and adenoids removed before she was two.

I needed to help her and I needed to help her immediately, but I had no idea how. I booked her into a clinic to have her tested for ADHD but the wait list was five months. I booked her in anyway and wondered how we would get through the next five months.

I got invited to a Thermomix demo and met a lady called Lisa, who is a Health Coach. She mentioned how bad Additive 102 is for you, and said it’s in foods such as custard powder and Cheezels. So that night I went home and googled 102 and came across a whole range of numbers. I soon realised how chemically-filled our ‘food’ in today’s world has become.

From that moment on I have worked really hard on eating wholefoods and making sure we stay away from additives and preservatives. Eva started Prep this year and is now a confident, bright and happy child. She no longer complains of tummy aches and stopped having tantrums where she’d sit on the floor scratching her face apart. I was able to cancel the appointment we had with the ADHD clinic, that definitely wasn’t needed any more, and our whole world changed for the better.

Heidi has been a practitioner of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Acupuncture for almost 12 years. She is the founder and director of AcuHealth Acupuncture Clinic, which first opened its doors in September of 2004 in The Grange. I first came to yoga because I had very bad sciatica pain and could hardly stand up, this was due to bad posture and a scoliosis I developed during my years growing up! I noticed I felt much better after a yoga class, my posture started to improve and I had no more pain. I remember one particular yoga class, 18 years ago now where I could not do a particular pose and I promptly broke down in tears ! That night I slept like a log, and knew that something profound had happened. This was my turning point to start studying yoga and become a teacher myself.

With regular practice, I discovered yoga’s internal benefits. Focusing on the breath helps to quieten my mind, building self-awareness and calmness which I carry over from my practice into my daily life.

I believe that yoga offers us an opportunity to rediscover our true selves, to rediscover the deep sense of calm and wellbeing that is always within; and that when we bring the energy of the heart and the mind into alignment, truly great things can happen!

Having studied various forms of yoga including Astanga, Satyananda, Vinyasa and Chi Gung Yoga, I now teach a ‘flow’ style of yoga. My classes are informative and fun and are influenced by my belief in practising with awareness and with intention, developing breath awareness, meditative peace, learn postural alignment, and the joy that is yoga! My dynamic approach and deep understanding of yoga has led to a beautiful spiritual path I would like to share with others.

Since the birth of my beautiful son Keanu, I have gained a much deeper understanding of teaching pre-natal and post-natal yoga classes. I love to teach pregnancy classes to not only connect to the life that is growing within but to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and give you the tools to prepare for birth.
